Optimist, pessimist or Economist?
Oct 15th, 2008 by Jamie Bradley
When Britain finally went into recession a matter of weeks ago, there seemed to be this sense of inevitability beforehand, like it was already a foregone conclusion and that the recession was already underway.
However, this misconception that I had shared with most people who I spoke to, about the recession and credit crunch being synonymous with one another, had ultimately lead me to believe that and it was not until I familiarised myself with the weekly economy informative magazine, The Economist, that I began to fully understand the difference in terminology between the two.
After several weeks of committing myself to the grammatical complexities of The Economist, I am finally beginning to familiarise myself with some of the jargon behind the articles and, given time, may even understand the entirity of one of the published articles.
Although an arduous task, I have committed myself to this project and will continue to read through each subscription as it comes out in order to ensure that this website will be a success and a reliable source of information.
Even as I write this, I am tearing my hair out as I try to even construct a sentence that could possibly emulate the erudite nature of the aforementioned magazine. That is, until I remind myself that our content is based around the notion of simplicity and not trying to overcomplicate matters, but to help our readers understand Britain’s economy and educate them, as we educate ourselves.
I find the sensation of having to stay one step ahead of our readers as a good incentive to continue learning at a healthy pace and knowing, that with each article we write, they will become more knowledgeable and it is about ensuring that we do not become complacent and leave ourselves open to contextual criticism from our own audience.
Hopefully, by the time my next post comes around, I will be able to discuss the pros and cons of the Ponzi scheme and offer a critical analysis to determine exactly when the recession will end.
Unfortunately, my next blog IS due within the next twenty years, so I cannot promise that either of the two will be on the agenda, but steady progress will continue to be made if nothing else!
