We all like to have a little splurge every now and then, but with the cost of food rising and interest rates getting higher than ever, it means that the majority if us have less money left over to spend on lifes little luxuries. We’ve compiled a list of tips and advice to help you cut costs next time you need to hit the shopping centre.
1) Do food shopping on the internet, that way you only get the things you really need and you’re not tempted by the special offers around the supermarket.
2) Don’t go food shopping on an empty stomach, obvious I know but we’ve all done it.
3) If you’re going on a shopping trip only take as much cash as you can afford to spend, leave your cards at home to avoid impulse buying.
4) If you’re going to go on a shopping spree wait until the sales, that way you’ll be able to get more for your money.
5) Keep an eye out in news papers, magazines and on the internet, many companies offer vouchers and discounts which could make a shopping trip lighter on your purse.
6) if you spot something you like don’t buy it straight away, go home and search for it on the internet, you could probably find a similar, if not the same product for cheaper.
7) when thinking about big house hold purchases such as a new TV, sofa or fridge ask yourself if you really need it, wait a few weeks and if the answer is still yes start shopping around, don’t buy things on a whim.
if you’re thinking of making a big purchase such as a TV or sofa a lot of companies work on commission, so don’t be afraid to barter, you could get some freebies thrown in.
9) Many companies and shops offer special discounts to students and pensioners, if you fall into either of these brackets take full advantage of these discounts.
10) Many shops offer reward cards, sigh up for them as you can earn points to spend towards shopping and they often send you vouchers and freebies in the post.
