Value-tines day for less
Feb 7th, 2009 by jwood
With valentines day just around the corner many of us are looking for ways to make the most romantic day of the year extra special for that certain someone. But thanks to the credit crunch it’s reported that only 17% of the population plan to celebrate Valentines Day with a night out.
With that in mind here are some top tips for having a romantic day on a budget:
1. Make your own card, find some paper, a special pen, some glitter and glue and get creative. There are lots of websites out there where you can download free designs and templates to help you get artistic, such as: www.homelifeweekly.com.
If your drawing skills aren’t up to much you could write a poem or letter and leave it somewhere thoughtful for your loved one to find during the day.
2. Instead of going out for a meal cook something at home, lots of supermarkets have special offers on valentines’ food such as M&S £20 Valentines deal.
If you don’t have time to cook order an inexpensive take-away such as a Chinese or an Indian. Set the table and create a romantic atmosphere with candles, rose petals and romantic music.
3. Spend some time together, your budget might not quite stretch to a romantic break this year but there are lots of inexpensive things you could do as a couple such as renting a film, going to the cinema, ice skating or bowling.
4. Check out the supermarkets, Asda are selling a dozen red roses for £2 and Morrisons are selling a bouquet set off with white gypsophila for £4.99.
Asda are also selling bottles of champagne for £10 Pierre Darcy’s brut non-vintage which is usually £23.98 a bottle, saving you a whopping £13.98.
5. Surf the web for gifts, you can find some really good deals online look at websites such as Iwantoneofthose.com where you can find an ideal gift for him/her for as little as £5.
Remember you don’t have to spend a fortune to make your day that extra bit special, as the saying goes “it’s the thought that counts”.
